Student workshop 4th step, November 29, 2012

- This is the mechanism to discover: the crank shaft, such as that of the pistons of the car: the circular motion of the wheel is transformed into a rectilinear movement in two directions: up and down. 2 - Take a look at our tablet: the key point of the mechanism is the hub in the straw, which allows the articulation between the stick that moves a rectilinear motion and the pin on the wheel. Try with your forearm, arm and elbow ...  3 - Fourth day of workshop. The school teacher Stefania Cesare introduces the fourth mechanism, "PIS", which continues, in presentations, to be concealed. Will be revealed as always in cases of absolute necessity ...
- To make the jointed stick must imagine and execute a series of cutting and gluing. 5 - This mechanism is difficult to conceive, and is on average complicated to make, but we are at the fourth lesson, and we try ... 6 - We ask students to make greater use of the notebook to draw a working hypothesis,
- without neglecting the practical experimentation with materials, which is always the basis of the activity. 8 - The basic idea is as always to reuse previous ideas, but the mechanism is now very difficult to conceive. 9 - After a half hour we begin to give directions, starting from the articulated straw .
- Students realize the articulated straw after our suggestions. 11 - And now they have one more tool to experiment with materials. 12 - But there are some who did not want the hint and want to discover the mechanism alone. A 25% of students they think so.
- As always, some are faster, 14 - and arrives quickly to the realization of the figure,
- e chi invece procede pių lentamente, per tentativi ed errori. In questo caso la cannuccia č troppo lunga, e ostacola il movimento.
- Here is a good achievement, with the mechanism ready to accept the figure. 17 - Today's theme is "Christmas." 18 - Students draw shapes directly on sheets of soft rubber.
- Red sheets end quickly. 20 - Predominant themes are trees, sleds ... 21 - ... and of course Santa Claus.
- Although there are flying saucers. 23 - A teacher's help to firmly attach the mechanism, 24 - and we are at the final presentation. Almost all tell of the difficulties ...
- ... in designing the mechanism, and the help they have received from teachers. 26 - This Santa was at first a kangaroo, and now is a Santa Claus jumping like a kangaroo ... 27 - this was a Godzilla but has been transformed into an UFO attack...
- When this Santa Claus lands breaks his ankle... 29 -  and this is a Christmas sleigh, and the creators were undecided about where to put the bag with gifts 30 - Another slide. With a little more time would have wanted to make the wires that commanded the reindeer ...

- These are two trees with the writing that goes up and down: Happy Holidays! 32 -  This is a dinosaur skewered by several wheels. 33 - And here is the video about the experience made today.
